According to Columbia Journalism Review, in 2006 alone, the world produced 161 exabytes of digital information. To put this amount into perspective: if you include all the books ever written in the known history of human kind, the amount of written information will not come close to 161 exabytes. As a matter of fact, 161 exabytes is 3 million times the amount of written information in all the books worldwide. The number of exabyted is expected to increase dramatically in the next few years.
